REVIEW: LIFEPROOF NEXT & SLAM CASES + GIVEAWAY

Followers on Instagram may already know that I bought a new phone recently after my beloved S7 Edge died, it served me for 3 years already even though with a broken screen. Since I don't want the same history repeating itself, I made sure I had my newly bought S9 covered with maximum protection. LOL... I don't think I could afford another heartache with high-end devices, especially when I'm paying it monthly. With my baby growing up and has the habit of throwing things around, I couldn't take the risk by buying a normal case. If the screen cracks like my S7 Edge, I'll be miserable as ever, I'll know it. So as soon as I bought the phone, I googled the best cases that could withstand drops and harsh falls that the market could offer. I even asked around and this is where I found out about Lifeproof.

I'm not sure if you all have heard about Lifeproof before because it certainly was my first time too when I got it. Yes, Lifeproof Asia sent me these cases for a review so I'm gonna tell you guys all about it and my experience using it for the last couple of weeks. Lifeproof designs casings that are  WaterProof, DropProof, DirtProof, SnowProof which started with their classic cases range FRĒ and the screenless NÜÜD. Then they expanded to two non-WaterProof offerings which are NËXT and SLΛM. If you check out their website, you'll find that Lifeproof focuses more on extreme outdoor activities that should help give maximum protection to your phone. The phone cases offered are mostly I-Phones and high-end Samsung devices.

I bet you can figure out, Lifeproof doesn't focus on casing designs patterns but more to the functions of the case to give it full protection from drops and dirt. For my S9, I received their NEXT range, which functions to protect the phone from drops, dirt, and snow. I also received 2 iPhone cases from the SLAM range which offers protection for drops. There isn't much difference to the cases for me though expect that SLAM offers a few variants of colors and designs to choose from while the NEXT case is a white hard shell with silicon rubber at the edges that come in a few colors.

The S9 is quite long but it isn't that wide, with the NEXT cover on it adds an extra inch to each side of the phone which gives a comfy grip because of the rubber edges but I don't really get a firm grip holding it with one hand, probably because I have small hands with short fingers. LOL... My husband says he's fine with the grip, so I guess unless you're like me, you won't find this a nuisance. But again, I took the S9 which is one of the small phones Samsung Offers, if it's the S9+ or the Note it might be even wider. Anyhow, I do understand that the sides are wider for a reason, the edge creates a bumper for drops and it's actually quite pretty. The front of the case is also risen a bit, so even there's no cover for the screen, it's still able to give quite the protection.

My Review

I've been using the NEXT case for a few weeks now and so far I'm completely satisfied with the protection it has given my phone. It has been countless times that my son reached my phone and threw it on cold on the floor. It's not easy to control him anymore since his responses are faster now and there was also a few times that made me shout of fear, worried that my screen would crack. But it survived all drops which make the case deliver its purpose.

The downside of it though is that it's not scratch-proof and it scratched quite easily too. Only 2 days after using it, I see an obvious scratch at the back and now I got tons of it but at least the scratches don't give any effect to the feel when I touch my phone. The case also collects dust very easily but only at the outside which I can just wipe off anytime. The inner remains clean as installed as the rubber edges keep it nicely sealed.

The NEXT comes with a dust wipe and also a mini key handle to open the case. Since the case is sealed pretty tight, you'll need to use the key provided to open and the case for installation and to open it. So if you're the type that keeps on changing sim cards, well this case is not for you as it's quite the hassle to open up the case. Other than that, the S9 has NFC and wireless charging feature that I mostly use to work. Thank goodness that even though the case is protective, it doesn't disrupt the feature at all. I'm still able to use both features with ease.

Overall, the real question is would the purchase be worth it for the price? To admit, it's a bit pricey for a simple case that isn't eye-catching but with the amounts of drops it protected my phone with, it should be worth it. Even my husband is impressed, and he's planning to purchase the iPhone X so Lifeproof was kind enough to gift one to him too. Instead the NEXT he got the SLAM edition which comes in more various designs. He received the Woodland Camo design which is an army print and really nice, I like it too. I really hope that the NEXT series could come with more lovely designs in the future.
