What Is Titrated Extract Of Centella Asiatica (TECA) In Skincare

Skincare Ingredient TECA

We all heard of Centella Asiatica (Cica) and how much it benefits our skin but have you heard of TECA which is also Cica! Centella Asiatica is a plant famously found in Madagascar known for its healing, soothing, antibacterial, and inflammatory properties, meaning it is ideal for sensitive skin. So that means TECA has the same properties but its even better! Why? Keep on reading to know more.

What is TECA?

Titrated Extract of Centella Asiatica (TECA)is a purified extract of Centella Asiatica. It is a standardized extract composed of Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassoside and Madecassic acid that are all components of the Centella Asiatica plant. They are called triterpenoids and are the components responsible for all the great skin benefits we get from the Cica plant.

So is TECA and Cica The Same?

Why name it TECA when TECA is actually Cica? It's basically all the components of Centella Asiatica. Well, there's a reason for that.

Centella Asiatica can vary a lot depending on the climate and the location that it’s grown in, which can produce different amounts of each of these four components Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassoside, and Madecassic acid.  The Centella plant, in general, seems to have lower levels of Asiatic acid and madecassic acid. By isolating the components makes it easier to reap benefits from them, and give formulators and manufacturers a bit more control over the content contained within a given product.

Hence, triterpenoids a.k.a TECA would work together to help promote collagen and stimulate circulation to the skin, which potentially can promote a slimming effect too. Studies show that TECA also shows strong antioxidant capabilities which beats Vitamin C around 85% effectiveness compared to ascorbic acid. Sounds amazing especially when you won't have to worry about oxidation!

Components Of TECA

1. Madecassoside

Help With Texture
To help aid in the prevention of hyperpigmentation and scarring basically to improve skin texture.

2. Madecassic acid

Help With Soothing
The reduction of irritation, as well as the suppression of inflammation, is going to help calm the skin and therefore reduce redness to the skin.

3. Asiaticoside

As an Antioxidant
It's scientifically shown to have a significant level of antibacterial and fungicidal activity, meaning it fights breakouts and protects the skin against irritation and stress which enhances its benefits when paired with sunscreen.

4. Asiatic acid

For Healing
It helps in anti-ageing and healing wounds. Healing breakouts and promoting the generation of new skin cells to slow down premature ageing and speed up the healing of acne.

That's a bit of information I know about TECA and again I'm no expert. My sharing is based on what I discovered only.

So since you know about a bit about TECA, below is a range of products from a Korean brand you can look forward too infused with a whole lot better of TECA.
